Haiku Vineyard

Haiku Vineyards specializes in growing organic and sustainably farmed wine grapes in Mendocino County. Today, the family farming company is managed by the third generation of grape farmers lead by Tyler Rodrigue, who manages and oversees all the day to day operations at Haiku. We employ the best traditional viticulture techniques combined with cutting edge technology to ensure consistent quality. Haiku Vineyards assists wineries to produce fine wine by delivering balanced fruit with pure flavors. In 2005, the vineyard was certified by the Fish Friendly Farming Certification Program, and has since been recognized by several environmental groups and governmental bodies for successful restoration of wild salmon and steelhead trout habitat.

The vineyard is named “Haiku” after the lyric, and often transcendent, 17-syllable poem that reflects some aspect of nature. Additionally, “Haiku” spelled backwards is “Ukiah,” the town nearest to the vineyard.

Terra Sávia
Vineyard

Jim Milone feels quite fortunate to have been making wine from Sanel Valley Vineyards for over 30 years. He is a fourth generation Hopland Winegrower, following in the footsteps of his great grandfather, who emigrated from Italy as a young man and operated Hopland’s first winery until Prohibition. He grew up working in the family vineyards developing a love for the land that has only increased over time, and founded the first winery in Hopland after prohibition.

His goal in winemaking is to create wines that are true extensions of the grape, vineyard and terroir. Jim's winemaking philosophy has developed over decades of producing a wide variety of wines from many different locations. Jim states, “Planting the right varieties in the right locations is first and foremost. If you want to make great wines, you must grow excellent grapes. Nurture the grapes organically and do as little as possible to the wine. Every step of wine production, from pruning to bottling is considered to minimize our impact on the environment and our products.

In keeping with Terra Sávia’s collective philosophy, they are producing high quality estate grown organic wines at reasonable prices. From the vine to the glass, every step is closely guided by their veteran winemaker who is assisted by 12 year vineyard veteran, Antonio Martinez.
